SHAKHTY (Rostov Region) (UrduPoint news / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) The authorities of the southwestern Russian city of Shakhty, located in the Rostov Region, are planning to declare Wednesday a day of mourning for those killed as a result of a household gas blast there, the mayor of Shakhty said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the eighth and ninth floors of a nine-storey apartment building collapsed in Shakthy, supposedly due to a household gas blast. According to the latest data, the incident has claimed two lives, while seven people have been pulled alive from under the rubble and another three are still missing.

"I suggest declaring tomorrow a day of mourning in Shakhty," Andrey Kovalev, the mayor of Shakhty, said at a meeting on removal actions.

Vasily Golubev, the governor of the Rostov Region, hailed the proposal and ruled to prepare necessary documents.

The partially collapsed building will be restored, Sergey Kuts, the Rostov Region's minister of construction, architecture, and territorial development, said at the same meeting.

"The house is in general subject to restoration. A commission will determine the order [how this will be done] after he meeting. Until [January] 18, we'll make a decision on accommodating people in some of the sections of the house," Kuts said.

Earlier in January, a section of a 10-storey residential building collapsed due to a gas blast in the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, claiming almost 40 lives.
