NEW YORK CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Ukraine has always been a valued partner of NATO and the alliance will continue to back the territorial integrity of the country, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg told journalists on Wednesday after the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"You can say it's always a great pleasure to meet President Zelenskyy. Ukraine is a highly valued partner of NATO, and NATO will continue to support Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty," Stoltenberg said.
The two are in New York City as part of the UN General Assembly's high-level week.
Ukraine's ambition to achieve EU and NATO membership has been a national priority dictating the country's foreign and domestic policies.
The Ukrainian parliament adopted constitutional amendments that committed the country to seek EU and NATO membership in 2019. In June 2020, the North Atlantic Council recognized Ukraine as an Enhanced Opportunities Partner.
Earlier in September, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine is ready for NATO membership, and the country believes that the alliance needs it.
