MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd August, 2018) New US sanctions against Russia over Moscow's alleged use of a nerve agent in the United Kingdom in March will take effect on Wednesday.
Washington announced the new sanctions, enacted under the Chemical and Biological Weapons Control and Warfare Elimination Act of 1991, on August 8.
According to the US State Department, once the sanctions go into effect, Russia will be prevented from obtaining licenses to import security sensitive goods or technologies from the United States.
On March 4, ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were found unconscious on a bench at a shopping center in Salisbury. The United Kingdom and its allies have accused Moscow of having orchestrated the attack with what UK experts claim was the A234 nerve agent, without presenting any proof.
Russian authorities have strongly refuted the allegations as groundless.
