Russia, Algeria Mull Creating Joint Venture For Munitions Production - Russian Lawmaker

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Russia and Algeria are discussing creation of a joint venture to produce, extend service life and dispose guided and unguided munitions, Chairman of the Federation Council's Defense and Security Committee Viktor Bondarev said on Wednesday.
"At the request of the Algerian side, the possibility of establishing a joint venture on its territory to produce, repair, extend service life and dispose guided and unguided munitions is being considered," Bondarev was quoted by his press service as saying at a meeting with the Algerian Defense Ministry's leadership in Algiers.
Bondarev added that projects on after-sales service of Russian military equipment were currently at various stages of development.
According to Bondarev, Russia is also mulling deliveries of weapons and military equipment to Algeria, which have not not been previously exported to the North African country.
Meanwhile, the Russian Federal Service of Military-Technical Cooperation declined to comment on the information.
According to the Algerian Defense Ministry's data, cited by Bondarev, the country has purchased Russian-made arms and military equipment worth over $26 billion in the last 10 years.
