UN Chief Meets Argentine, Chilean Presidents at South-South Summit - Spokesman

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met separately in Buenos Aires with Argentine President Mauricio Macri and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on the sidelines of the UN Conference on South-South Cooperation, UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in a press briefing on Wednesday

UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met separately in Buenos Aires with Argentine President Mauricio Macri and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on the sidelines of the UN Conference on South-South Cooperation, UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

"The Secretary-General arrived in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires earlier this morning, he met with President Mauricio Macri," Haq said. "The Secretary-General also met with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera this morning."

Guterres congratulated Argentina on hosting the second High-Level UN Conference on South-South Cooperation and praised the government's effort in addressing UN global priorities, including the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, Haq said.

The South-South Cooperation summit opened earlier on Wednesday in Buenos Aires, hosting high-level officials from 193 countries. During the conference, representatives from the developing countries of the Global South will address the issues of sustainable food, gender equality, and climate change, as well as efforts needed to be taken to reach the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
