UN Representatives to Attend Arctic Forum in Russia in April - Forum Moderator

Representatives of the United Nations and foreign delegations from the observer countries of the Arctic Council will take part in the International Arctic Forum in Russia in April, Nikolay Korchunov, a Russian Foreign Ministry ambassador at large and moderator of the forum, said on Monday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th February, 2019) Representatives of the United Nations and foreign delegations from the observer countries of the Arctic Council will take part in the International Arctic Forum in Russia in April, Nikolay Korchunov, a Russian Foreign Ministry ambassador at large and moderator of the forum, said on Monday.

"In spring, we expect foreign participation of our neighbors in the region, Arctic Council partners, as well as observer countries of the Arctic Council and other states interested in contributing to the sustainable development of the Arctic region and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation [in the International Arctic Forum].

There will also be representatives of a number of international organizations, including the United Nations, the Arctic Council, the Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) and others," Korchunov said.

The International Arctic Forum was first held in 2010 and is the largest forum for discussing topical issues and prospects for the development of the Arctic region with international partners. This year's event will take place on April 9-10 in St. Petersburg and will fall under the theme "Arctic: Territory of Dialogue."
