Washington, United States, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2018 ) :The United States banned Albanian politician Tom Doshi and his wife and children from its territory on Monday, citing his alleged "involvement in significant corruption." The State Department designated the 51-year-old lawmaker for a visa ban, along with his wife Xhovana, his adult daughter Briana, adult son James and his minor children.
Doshi was formerly a member of Albania's majority Socialist Party under Prime Minister Edi Rama, but was expelled in 2015 after he accused colleagues of plotting his murder. His claims sparked an investigation, but prosecutors found no evidence to support Doshi's claim that parliamentary speaker Ilir Meta had tried to hire an assassin to target him.
The State Department statement did not go into any detail on the corruption allegations upon which the ban was based. This was not the first time that the United States has used Section 7031(c) of the FY 2017 Consolidated Appropriations Act to target an Albanian political figure for corruption.
In February, the country's former prosecutor general Adriatik Llalla was similarly banned from the United States, again along with his wife and children, on the same grounds.
