US Law Firm Pays $4.6Mln Penalty In Registering As Ukraine Foreign Agent - Justice Dept.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) The US law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, which was introduced to Ukraine's Ministry of Justice by former Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, has agreed to register as a foreign agent and pay a $4.6 million penalty for work it did without such registration, the Department of Justice announced in a press release on Thursday.

"In addition to agreeing to register under FARA (the Foreign Agents Registration Act), Skadden has agreed to pay the US Treasury more than $4.6 million, which it received in fees and expenses for its work with Ukraine, and will ensure that it has formal, robust procedures for responding to inquiries concerning its conduct from any Federal government entity and ensuring FARA compliance as to its engagements on behalf of foreign clients," the release said.
