WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th September, 2018) The United States will be further isolated from its international partners after President Donald Trump's "blustery and bullying" speech at the United Nations, Congressman Eliot Engel said in a statement on Tuesday.
"America's standing in the world has plummeted so far in the last 20 months, and President Trump's blustery and bullying speech will serve only to isolate us further," Engel said.
Trump exaggerated his administration's achievement, praised dictators and insulted US allies and strategic partners, Engel argued.
Earlier on Tuesday, the US president delivered an address to the UN General Assembly in which he called upon all countries to isolate Iran and promised to continue taking strong actions until Tehran changes its course.
During his speech, Trump also thanked North Korean Chairman Kin Jong Un for his willingness to cooperate on achieving full and verifiable denuclearizatin of the Korean Peninsula.
Trump also took aim on China as he spoke about flaws in the world trading system and the need for reciprocal and fair trade. He highlighted the United States' success in recent trade negotiations with Mexico and pledged to defend US interests in future trade agreements.
Trump is participating in the UN General Assembly for the second time since taking office in 2017.
