The United States will soon start negotiations with Japan on a trade agreement, US Vice President Mike Pence said on Saturday.
PORT MORESBY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th November, 2018) The United States will soon start negotiations with Japan on a trade agreement, US Vice President Mike Pence said on Saturday.
"The United States will soon enter negotiations on a trade agreement with the world's third-largest economy, it's Japan. I'm also pleased to report that America is already in discussions on another trade deal with yet another APEC [Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation] member. We're just getting started on that," Pence said at the APEC CEO summit in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea.
In late September, the United States and Japan agreed to start trade negotiations. US President Donald Trump said that he was "very happy" about that.
Earlier in September, Trump told reporters that Japan did not want to negotiate with the administration of former US President Barack Obama as "they felt there was going to be no retribution." Trump also said that Tokyo would have a "big problem" if failed to reach a trade accord with the United States.
