SOCHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) The World Trade Organization (WTO) is prepared to facilitate the Canada-led meeting to discuss the organization's activities and possible reform, Yonov Frederick Agah, WTO deputy director-general, told Sputnik on Monday.
On October 24-25, Canada will chair a meeting devoted to the reforming of the World Trade Organization. Invitations to take part in the consultations have been extended to Australia, Brazil, Chile, the European Union, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland. Meanwhile, China and the United states, which are currently entangled in a trade dispute, have not been invited to the talks.
"That is a meeting between the WTO members. They will set the agenda. If they want us to give them documents, the secretariat will give them documents. If they want us to facilitate their meeting, we will facilitate their meeting," Agah said.
There have been calls in recent years to reform the 164-nation WTO, which has the power to settle international trade disputes. G20 trade ministers agreed in September to speed up the reform after Washington threatened to quit.
