DG Directs FBR To Gear Up Efforts To Identify Tax-evaders

Director General (DG) Intelligence and Investigation of Inland Revenue, Shad Muhammad has directed the officials of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to gear up efforts for identifying the tax-evaders
While chairing a meeting here at FBR's office on Wednesday, he stressed on identifying the tax evaders specially those involved in illegal tobacco trade and filing fake sales tax invoices.
"Tax collection is very important for sustained development, better education and health facilities in the country," he said.
Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Shahid Iqbal Baloch, Director Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad Abdul Rehman Bullo, Collector Customs Khalid Hussain Jamali, Commissioner Inland Revenue Muhammad Aslam Mari and Additional Director Intelligence and Investigation Mumtaz Ali Thebo attended the meeting.
After the meeting, the cigarettes worth tens of millions of rupees prepared by the tax evading companies were set ablaze at the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation.
Later talking to media men, the DG said that cigarettes of the local companies which evade taxes were seized and burnt.
He said it was necessary to take action against the tax-evaders and to protect the tax payers.
Collector Customs Hyderabad, Khalid Hussain Jamali informed that recently 1 million liter of smuggled diesel was seized and later auctioned at Rs50 million.
The department also seized smuggled goods of worth around Rs800 million, he said.
