Kerch Strait Tanker Fire Caused No Oil Spill, Environmental Damage - Russian Authorities

There have been no oil spill or other environmental loss after a fire erupted on board of two Tanzania-flagged tankers in the Kerch Strait, the Russian Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transportation (Rosmorrechflot) told Sputnik on Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) There have been no oil spill or other environmental loss after a fire erupted on board of two Tanzania-flagged tankers in the Kerch Strait, the Russian Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transportation (Rosmorrechflot) told Sputnik on Tuesday.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out on Monday during the transfer of the liquefied natural gas from one vessel to another. Rosmorrechflot said 12 people were rescued, 10 died and 10 were reported missing.

"The information we possess shows there is no environmental damage, no oil spill," the agency said.
