UK Business Confederation Says Gov't Immigration Plans To Make People, Firms Poorer

The UK government's post-Brexit immigration plans published on Wednesday would create complications for many companies and make firms and people poorer, the deputy director general of the UK Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said.
"The proposals outlined in the white paper don't meet the UK's needs and would be a sucker punch for many firms right across the country. The government's own analysis suggests people and regions will be poorer as a result of them," Josh Hardie said, as quoted by The Guardian newspaper.
The government intends to remove the cap on certain skilled workers, such as doctors, from the European Union and beyond.
At the same time, such workers will need to have a job offer before they arrive and the government will launch a consultation on setting a minimum salary requirement of 30,000 Pounds [$37,995] for skilled migrants who apply for five-year visas.
According to CBI, the potential 30,000-pounds-threshold would be a key obstacle for many people and companies.
Agricultural sector will have certain concessions to allow it to bring in low-skilled workers. Additionally, a special temporary measure will allow low-skilled workers to come to the United Kingdom looking for work for 12 months, without having a job offer in advance.
