Doctors Launch Academic Support Program For Children

KONPAL, an NGO comprising child specialists and doctors in general working for protection of children against abuse here on Wednesday announced to launch Konpal Academic Support Program (KASP) for children.

KASP chief coordinator, Dr. Seema Zia sharing details of the initiative said it aims to provide educational support to children belonging to poor or lower middle class families, who find it difficult to make their ends meet.
"Education of a child, in our particular context, takes the form of neglect mainly due to parental/guardian's financial restraints," she said.
Zia, a doctor turned politician mentioned that Primary school enrolment in the country was 72% only, tampering further down to 46% in secondary schools.
"The dropout rate at all levels is high,so much so that only 28% reach matriculation," she said.
KASP was said to be aimed towards empowering children and support their families to help materialize academic goals of their kids.
The first fund raising, she said was already done through the founding members of KONPAL under which education related financial needs of 11 deserving students would be ensured with effect from October one this year.
People in general have also been invited to join the cause"sponsor a child's education".
