The semester examinations of 57 departments at the University of Sindh Jamshoro are being started from Thursday April 25 amid strict ban on and zero-tolerance for the shortage of attendance of the students
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat said that the students having short attendance out of the stipulated percentage will not to be allowed to appear in the examinations and the given pre-requisite will not be waived off in the best academic interest of the varsity.
This, he said while speaking at the meeting of deans committee on Wednesday which was specifically convened to review the arrangements and matters regarding the first semester examinations at the main and affiliated campuses of the varsity.
The deans of various faculties Dr. Abdullah Dayo, Dr. Akhtar Hussain Mughal, Dr. Abdul Ghani Shaikh, Dr. Hakim Ali Kanasero, Dr. Zareen Abbasi, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Rind, director finance Dr. Hakim Ali Mahesar, advisor P&D Sajid Qayoom Memon and director ISO cell Dr. Ameer Ali Abro attended the meeting.
The deans also strongly recommended not allowing students with attendance shortfall to take examinations. The Vice Chancellor conceded to the deans' recommendation and said that the policies devised for the betterment of the university will be implemented at all costs.
Without attending the requisite number of classes, no student could be allowed to appear for the exams", the Vice Chancellor said and added that most of the time, parents were not aware that their siblings were skipping classes. Consequently, he said the attendance list was being uploaded on the official website of the students' parents to view and know about their attendance ratio.
"Despite attendance upload, if the parents are not taking notice of short attendance of their children, the university will not give the students further concession in this context", he said and added that the university management will now call parents of students who have shortage of attendance midway through the academic year and ask them to ensure that their children are attending classes regularly.
The meeting unanimously decided for the teachers to mandatorily submit results after 15 days from the completion of examinations and also to let students see their scripts before finalization of grades.
The meeting also decided to take strict disciplinary action through disciplinary committee against the students found using unfair means.
