Member AJK Legislative Assembly Pir Ali Raza Bukhari said the settlement of longstanding Kashmir dispute is imperative for a durable peace between two nuclear rivals
In an interview to Voice of America in Washington late Tueseay, Bukhari observed that due to Kashmir conflict, the woes of divided Kashmiri families have increased. He urged both India and Pakistan to allow regular contacts among the divided families of Kashmiris of both parts providing an opportunity to see their near and dear ones. Kashmiris are waiting for the promises made to them by international community especially the United Nations to implement its resolutions on right to self-determination, he added.
He said the people of Kashmir question that at a time when most of problems and conflicts over the globe have been resolved, why Kashmir issue could not be settled despite elapsing seven decades. Countering the Indian propaganda that there was cross border terrorism in the Held Valley, he said Kashmiris' struggle is indigenous, constitutional, legal and relates to humanity.
Besides regional peace, the settlement of Kashmir conflict is also in the larger interest of Pakistan and India for their economic development. He said the teachings of mysticism are based on the message of love, peace, brotherhood and helping each other.
Turning to terrorism that has plagued the entire country, Bukhari said it is now a global issue and is against the humanity. It must be countered effectively in the country and over the globe. He said in the light of Islamic teachings Sufis and Ulemas are engaged in rooting out the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country. Armed forces of the country did a tremendous job to put a stem to terrorism, he stated.
Bukhari said on January 16 last year Sufis, University teachers and opinion makers made a national narrative through Paigham-e-Pakistan which is designed to spread the message of love and peace in the society and forcefully counter terrorism and extremism.
