ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2018 ) :The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in Indian occupied Kashmir, has termed the death of 70-year-old Ghulam Hassan Malik alias Noor Khan at Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu as the biggest human tragedy.
According to Kashmir media service, the resistance leaders in a statement issued in Srinagar said, "Death of Ghulam Hassan Malik during imprisonment has proved the apprehensions of leadership right that Kashmiri prisoners are ill treated in jails and not even provided with the basic medical aid which poses a great threat to their lives as proven in the case of Malik." They paid rich tributes to the courage and patience shown by Ghulam Hassan Malik during illegal detention.
"Kashmiris will always remember the contributions made by Ghulam Hassan Malik towards the Kashmir movement throughout his life. Elderly Malik was slapped with PSA and arrested from his home and later lodged in notorious Kot Bhalwal jail where he was denied medical aid with the result his health deteriorated which later resulted in his death during incarceration," they said.
Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik said that the relatives of most of the Kashmiri leaders who met them in Tihar Jail of New Delhi narrated a painful tale that included non-provision of medicines, and things required by a person on a daily basis.
They appealed to the heads of all human rights organizations across the globe like Amnesty International, Asia Watch, and International Committee of Red Cross to conduct a thorough visit of various jails including Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, Kot Bhalwal and also the Central Jail Srinagar to get a firsthand account of the situation.
They urged the international organisations to build pressure on India to provide medicines and basic medical care to the prisoners who are in need of it to prevent further deaths.
The leaders also condemned the thrashing and injuring of dozens of people and vandalizing of property worth lacs of rupees by Indian troops in Mochuwara area in Shopian district during nocturnal raids.
