MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th May, 2019 ) :The government will ensure Rs 200 extra-premium/40kg, on neat and clean picking of cotton this year.
Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) agreed to offer extra premium on clean picking of cotton, said Director General Agriculture Syed Zafar Yab Haider while talking to farmers. He said the Punjab government was trying its best to promote cotton crop across the province.
He hoped that cotton farmers would get handsome prices in the ongoing season, adding that canal water would also be made available this year for crops.
Syed Zafar Yab also informed that field formation crew of the agriculture department was continuously visiting farmers' fields with an aim to guide them for bumper crop.
He added that Rs 1000 subsidy on cotton seed bag was being given to facilitate farmers. About 100,000 cotton seed bags would be distributed among farmers in three divisions of South Punjab, he said.
In order to lower input cost, the government was also extending subsidy on potassium and phosphorus so that farmers could be able to maintain soil health. He urged farmers to complete cotton cultivation by May 31 and use recommended seeds only. About eight to 10 kg seeds should be used in one acre, he said and added that there should be at least 23,000 cotton plants in an acre, he suggested.
Local officers of agriculture department were also present.
