ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th August, 2016) : A condolence reference was held here Tuesday at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to pay tribute martyrs of Quetta carnage, including seven of its alumini lawyers. The IIUI lost 7 of its alumni lawyers in Monday's blast which claimed scores of lives in the capital city of Balochistan, a university press release said. The participants of the reference called for a counter narrative approach to get rid of the menace of terrorism. They condoled with IIUI Rector Dr Masoom Yasinzai, who lost few of his relatives in the sad incident and prayed for the eternal peace of departed souls. "Nation is facing a tough time, terrorism has crippled the society, it's time to rise, we need to be united as silence is not a solution," said Dr Masoom Yasinzai addressing the reference.
He said the universities would have to take their role of nation building seriously. "Educational institutions are the sources which educate common masses and if this goal is achieved it means the bugbears won't get any facilitator to get flourished in terms of destructive activities," he added. The IIUI Rector said as many as 200 students hailing from all the regions of country would travel to Quetta where they would raise Pakistani flag to show that the nation was united and youth had taken the responsibility to save the soil.
He viewed that mindset of terrorism could be defeated through education only as it could make people aware about the plots and ill-plans of the enemy. President of Academic Staff Association Dr.
Zafar Iqbal said the menace of terrorism could be defeated if "we take practical steps to curb this fatal phenomena instead of sitting back and waiting for others to solve it." He said it should be dealt with bravery and counter strategy. Mehmoodur Rehman, President Officers Welfare Association, said the pain of the lost lives was not explainable.
IIUI was proud of its Alumni who sacrificed their lives, he added. University Staff Welfare Association President Sardar Khan paid tribute to the martyrs and said the university was saddened on the loss of lives of its alumni lawyers. The reference was also attended by Vice President Academics Dr.
Muhammad Bashir Khan, Director General Khalid Mehmood Raja, Deans, Directors, Administrative and supporting staff of the university. Meanwhile, KP Senior Minister for Local Government Election and Rural Development Inayatullah called on the Rector IIUI at his office and condoled on the death of his relatives.
