The labourer and peasants have urged the Sindh government to enforce Sindh Industrial Relations Act, 2013, to protect the peasants from exploitation and to provide them the labour rights
HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Feb, 2018 ) :The labourer and peasants have urged the Sindh government to enforce Sindh Industrial Relations Act, 2013, to protect the peasants from exploitation and to provide them the labour rights.
In this regard National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) and Sindh Agriculture General Workers Union (SAGWU) organized a protest demonstration here on Thursday outside the local press club. The demonstration was led by SAGWU's General Secretary Lal Bux Lalan.
While addressing the protesters Lalan said after 18th amendment in the constitution the long standing demand of trade unionist to recognize peasants and fishermen as workers was accepted in SIRA, 2013, by Sindh Assembly in year 2013."It was a historical development which gave the rights to the peasants and fishermen for unionizing, collective bargaining, registration with the social security, pension, grants and welfare schemes," he observed.
However, he regretted that the workers were still unable to benefit from the new law because the provincial government and Sindh Labor Department had failed to make the rules despite passage of over 4 years.
Lalan lamented that the workers were still working in dangerously inadequate conditions with deteriorating health and safety facilities."The peasants are exposed to several health hazards due to their exposure to poisonous sprays, fertilizers and pesticides," he noted.
The protesters demanded that the representatives of workers should be taken on board in the tripartite committee to make rules of SIRA to make it effective and so that they could benefit from social security and other rights enshrined in the law.
