
Minister For Ports And Shipping Discusses Maritime Sector's Issues

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22th August, 2016) : Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo along with the Director General Ports and Shipping on Monday visited the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) headquarters here and discussed in detail registration of fishing boats and various other issues pertaining to maritime sector of the country. Representatives of various maritime sector organizations, including Pakistan Navy, Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Marine Fisheries and Marine Mercantile Department were present. The installation of Vessel Monitoring System on fishing boats, sea pollution, especially in harbour areas, deep sea policy and port security also came under discussion with various policy options and practical way forward for future course of action.
PMSA Director General Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar briefed the minister about the roles, functions and future development plans of PMSA. The minister appreciated the PMSA's efforts with the coordination of relevant stakeholders to safeguard the maritime interests of Pakistan.
He also admired the achievements of the PMSA. Hasil Khan Bizenjo applauded the commitment and dedication of PMSA, the sole maritime law enforcement agency of the country. The minister assured full support to the PMSA at all levels, and desired to hold regular meeting with all stakeholders in order to review the progress on the maritime sector's issues discussed in the meeting.
