ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23th August, 2016) : Pakistan Railways (PR) would launch a tree plantation campaign this year across the entire railway network of the country, an official of the ministry of Railways said on Tuesday. Talking to APP, he said that Pakistan Railways had planted approximately 49,500 saplings at the entire railway network across the country during 2014-15. The number of trees have been progressively increased through successive plantation campaigns, he added. The official said that in every monsoon season trees are planted in hundreds at railway stations, therefore, Pakistan Railways has planned to develop green belts along the railway track including stations.
He said that initially a pilot project is being undertaken from Shahadara to Raiwind for development of first railway green corridor in joint venture with Punjab Horticultural Authority (PHA). On successful completion of the pilot project, he said that similar projects will be initiated at other available locations.
