Remembering Bedi on his 114th birth anniversary: A poet who bridged divides

ISLAMABAD, Mar 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Mar, 2023 ) :On the occasion of Kunwar Mohinder Singh Bedi's 114th birth anniversary, the literary world pays homage to the iconic urdu poet for his powerful verses that brought to life the emotions of love, separation, and hope while transcending the boundaries.

Bedi's contributions to Urdu literature have earned him a place among the greatest poets of the subcontinent. His poetry has a wide range of themes, including traditional themes of love and yearning, as well as themes of unity and peace along with humor.

His poetry is considered to belong to the same tradition as that of well-known poets Muhammad Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, and Ahmad Faraz.

Bedi's first book of poetry, Tulu-i Sahar, was published in 1962, and he went on to publish a collection of autobiographical poetry titled Yadon ka jashn (A Celebration of Memories) in 1983.

Apart from his contribution to literature, Bedi was also involved in the Indian film industry, producing three movies including Man Jeete Jag Jeet (1973), Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974), and Charandas (1977).

To honor his contribution to Urdu literature, the Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi Award was created which is presented by Haryana Urdu Akademi.

His legacy continues to inspire generations of Urdu poetry enthusiasts, and his work remains an essential part of the cultural heritage of the subcontinent.
