Sports is an efficient mode to promote soft image of the country

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Feb, 2018 ) :sports is one of the most efficient mode to promote a soft image of the country, said Senior Taj Haider, a senior politician and a stalwart of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) here Thursday evening.

Addressing Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Talent Award ceremony held at Karachi Gymkhana under the aegis of Pak Crescent Forum, he appreciated young players led by Shiraz Asif, Captain, Pakistan Junior Baseball Team, for bringing laurels to the country.

"You have in-fact contributed towards changing the world perception about the local youth," commented the seasoned politician. Senator Taj Haider assured the players that PPP in compliance to the vision of Shaeed Rani Benazir Bhutto will continue to promote and patronize young talent of the country.

Particularly appreciative of Shiraz Asif, he said the achievements of the young sportsman were outstanding and there was need to support the budding talent. The Senator also complimented the office bearers of Pakistan Baseball Federation for their commitment towards the cause of grooming young players for international events.

It is equally heartening to know that national and provincial level championships organized by the Federation has helped hunting new talent and preparing the same for world level tournaments, he said.

"I am also glad that efficient infrastructure, particularly for under 12 to 15 players has helped increasing country's ranking at the international level," commented the PPP senator. Senator Taj Haider on the occasion recalled the contribution made by former President of Pakistan Baseball Federation, Syed Khawar Shah (late) for introducing and promoting the game in the country.

"It is now an equally popular game among both men and women pertaining to different age groups," he said. Shiraz Asif addressing the ceremony said being conferred upon with an award named after Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was an honor for him.

"I dedicate this award to my mentor Syed Khawar Shah (late) as it was he who not only encouraged me a lot but also provided me with all opportunities to excel in the game," he said. APP/rh/rap
