Spurious Fertilizer Sellers To Face Strict Action

The government has devised a comprehensive plan to take action against manufacturers and dealers selling spurious and sub-standard pesticides and fertilizers in Bahawalpur division.
This was said by Commissioner Bahawalpur Nayyar Iqbal while presiding over a meeting of Divisional Agriculture Task Force Committee here Thursday. The meeting was attended by Director Agriculture Muhammad Munir, Additional Commissioner Coordination Aftab Ahmed Pirzada, Additional Commissioner Headquarter Dr Saif Ullah and other officials of agriculture department while Deputy Commissioners of Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan participated through video link.
The Commissioner said, "Effective measures should be taken to boost the agro economy and all steps to be taken for protection of farmer's rights.
" He said strict action should be taken to root-out the malpractice of manufacturing and selling spurious and sub standard fertilizers & pesticides. He urged the officials of agriculture department to launch a comprehensive campaign to streamline the agri-sector on modern lines.
On the occasion, the officials told the meeting that agriculture department captured spurious fertilizer amounting Rs one million and Rs 0.453 million fine was imposed of sellers. They said that agriculture department collected 765 samples of pesticides and of them, 17 samples were found substandard. They said seven FIRs were registered against the violators while pesticides worth Rs 2.9 million were destroyed. They also told that the agriculture department also collected 382 samples of fertilizers and 20 of them were found spurious.
