Komal Khan Beat Laiba Ijaz To Win KP Women Squash League Title

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Feb, 2018 ) :Komal Khan defeated Laiba Ijaz in a thrilling 3-1 final of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Squash League played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Monday.
Senior Vice President of Khyber Union of Journalist Muhammad Naeem was the chief guest on this occasion. Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, former President Peshawar Press Club Muhammad Riaz, Member Executive Committee KP Squash Association Sher Bahadar, Wazir Gul, Nazim Nawa Khali Sajjad Khalil and large number of players and spectators were also present.
Before the start of the final the all the players, spectators and guests observed a minute silence by paying rich tribute to the martyred of Kashmir. In the tough final both Komal and Laiba Ijaz gave each other a tough fight in the marathon four sets battle.
The currently Under-19 Pakistan No. 1 Komal Khan faced tough time against Laiba Ijaz, the current Pakistan Under-15 No. 1 in the marathon set where both were stretched to 14-12. The set was tied at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12 and thus at the end won the set by 14-12.
After winning the first set, Komal Khan failed to click in the second set won by Laiba Ijaz with her score 8-11. When both were tied 1-1 at the set tally, this time Komal Khan won the third and fourth set by 11-9 and 11-9 to march as victorious.
With the victory against Laiba Ijaz, Kohat won all her nine matches, Laiba won eight matches after playing nine matches of the league, followed by Nimra who won six matches and lost three, Hira, Zuhara, Sana, Kalsoom, Eman, Manahil, Mehvish, Erish, Zahra, Kashmala, Zareen, Warisha, Kainat got position in the League.
Each of the participants played nine matches each. Speaking on this occasion, Muhammad Naeem lauded KP Squash Association for holding League by involving all the girls of part of the Qamar Zaman Squash Female academy.
He said with competitions the players would definitely improve their game. In his speech, former World Champion Qamar Zaman said that they are regularly being organized the League for both female and male so that every player could play more matches in order to provide competitive exposure.
He said the female players are gradually improving their game and the players made a clear sweep in the recently concluded Quaid-e-Azam Games. He said Laiba gave a good performance by winning two gold medals in individual and team events. He said such league would also be organized for the male as well.
