NBP Inter-Divisional Boxing Championship In City

National Bank of Pakistan Inter-Divisional Boxing Championship got under way here at Lala Aman Boxing Arena, Qayyum Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Regional Chief National Bank of Pakistan Sohail Ahmad and former Sports Minister Syed Aqil graced the occasion as chief guest. They also formally inaugurated the Championship. Organizing Secretary and Secretary General of KP Boxing Association Syed Kamal, international boxer Tahir Qurashi, In-charge Sports National Bank Basit Kamal, officials, players and large number of spectators were also present.
Speaking on this occasion, Syed Kamal Khan thanked NBP and Directorate of Sports KP for extending support to the KP Boxing Association for organizing the Championship.
He expressed that the Championship would provide good opportunities to the players to come and show their hidden talent. He said that out of the Championship the selection committee would also see performances of players before short-listing for the camp.
He disclosed that divisional teams comprising Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Swat, Mardan, Hazara and host Peshawar are taking part. He said KP Boxing Association with the strong support of Directorate of Sports KP would ensure all facilities to the players during the Championship.
He also lauded Regional Chief National Bank of Pakistan Muhammad Sohail for enduring all out support financially in holding the Championship. "We have also directed the office-bearers at Divisional level to conduct a proper trials before short-listing their respective teams so that each of the talented players could come and reach to the provincial level," Syed Kamal Khan added.
He said talks have been continued with the Boxing Association of Afghanistan to have a joint series with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "Certainly with such event the players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would get international exposures," he said, adding, the support extended by Director General Sports KP is bearing fruits and through consistent event more and more pugilists are coming to the national side from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa." He said KP Boxing Association is trying hard to provide best available coaching and training to both male and female boxing players of the province and out of the Championship a list of the talented pugilists would be finalized to hold a camp under qualified coaches.
After the camp these players would be given opportunities to represent KP in the national events to be organized under the aegis of Pakistan Boxing Federation in other cities, Kamal concluded.
