The International Space Station and Mars exploration are the prime areas for cooperation between the European Space Agency (ESA) and Russia, Program Coordinator for Earth Observation at ESA Alexander Soucek told Sputnik Wednesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 12th September, 2018) The International Space Station and Mars exploration are the prime areas for cooperation between the European Space Agency (ESA) and Russia, Program Coordinator for Earth Observation at ESA Alexander Soucek told Sputnik Wednesday.

"The ISS is a prime example of human space flight, of cooperation between various states, including Russia, including some member states of ESA. Planet exploration, particularly Mars exploration, is another example. Those two I just mentioned are the two strongholds of our cooperation currently," Soucek said.

He stressed that Russia was a major partner for the organization because of its vast experience.

"The Russian Federation is for us a very important international partner, a country with a very rich and important heritage in terms of space flight and we are happy in principle to cooperate, like we are happy to cooperate with other international partners," the coordinator said.

Russia and the ESA are working together on several projects, including the ExoMars-2020, the Red Planet's exploration mission.
