MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st February, 2019) Russia launched on Thursday Egypt's EgyptSat-A earth observation satellite on board a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan, a Russian space industry source told Sputnik.

It is the first Russian space launch in 2019.

According to Dmitry Rogozin, the head of the Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos, Russia is planning to conduct a total of 45 space launches this year.

"The Soyuz-2.1b rocket was launched from the Site 31 at the Baikonur cosmodrome," the source said.

According to the source, the Russian-made satellite is expected to separate from the Fregat booster and reach the target orbit at about 09.05 p.m. Moscow time (18:05 GMT).
