Almost 50 administrators of public groups in social media were convicted and punished for disseminating anti-Ukrainian propaganda in 2018, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported on Wednesday
KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 09th January, 2019) Almost 50 administrators of public groups in social media were convicted and punished for disseminating anti-Ukrainian propaganda in 2018, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reported on Wednesday.
"360 cyberincidents were revealed and blocked by the SBU in 2018: 49 social network administrators were brought to justice for anti-Ukrainian propaganda, 29 persons were declared suspects, 20 court verdicts entered into force," the SBU said in a statement.
In May 2017, Ukrainian Presdient Petro Poroshenko approved the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council's decision to expand the list of sanctioned Russian individuals and legal entities, imposing sanctions on a number of Russian media and popular social networks such as VK and Odnoklassniki, as well as IT giants Yandex and Mail.
Ru. Moscow, in turn, has said it believes that by banning social networks Kiev intends to block alternative sources of information.
Nonetheless, as of April 2018, the four aforementioned platforms remained in the Top 25 of the most popular websites among Ukrainians.
