WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 29th September, 2018) The United States has allocated $2 million to the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative to foster investment in the private sector, US Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release.
"The Deputy Secretary announced $2 million to be allocated to the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative to identify projects where US development finance can spur private sector investment throughout the Caribbean energy sector," Nauert said in the release on Friday.
On Thursday, Nauert said US Deputy Secretary John Sullivan hosted a meeting with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
The United States and CARICOM foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to forge stronger relations in security, diplomacy, prosperity, energy, education and health, Nauert pointed out.
The officials discussed expanding economic prosperity and energy security, combating transnational criminal organizations, improving citizen security, and supporting emergency response and preparedness for natural disasters, Nauert said.
