German Defense Chief Welcomes EU Unity on Nord Stream 2 Pipeline

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed a provisional EU deal on rules governing the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, in an interview with the Bild newspaper out Monday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th February, 2019) German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed a provisional EU deal on rules governing the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, in an interview with the Bild newspaper out Monday.

"There will be a pipeline but it will be regulated," she said, adding there was still no compromise on "what the rules for gas imports are, who will turn the valve on and off, and who will own what.

"

Von der Leyen said there were four other gas pipelines to Europe that had not been argued over as bitterly as the Nord Stream 2 project.

The pipeline will bring 1.9 trillion cubic feet of Russian natural gas across the Baltic Sea to Germany. EU regulators have been working for over a year to extend rules, which separate gas production from transportation, to third countries.
