Russia's Gazprom, Japan's Mitsui Discuss Sakhalin-2, Baltic LNG Projects

Russia's Gazprom and Japan's Mitsui & Co discussed on Tuesday the issues of bilateral cooperation, including the Sakhalin-2 and Baltic LNG (liquefied natural gas) projects, the Russian company said in a statement

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2019) Russia's Gazprom and Japan's Mitsui & Co discussed on Tuesday the issues of bilateral cooperation, including the Sakhalin-2 and Baltic LNG (liquefied natural gas) projects, the Russian company said in a statement.

"The parties discussed current issues related to bilateral collaboration, including the Sakhalin II project. [Gazprom CEO] Alexey Miller and [Chairman of the board of Directors of Mitsui] Masami Iijima also considered the avenues for further cooperation, paying particular attention to the Baltic LNG project.

A joint design concept (pre-FEED) is currently being developed for the project," the statement read.

The meeting took place in Moscow.

In September, Gazprom and Mitsui & Co signed a memorandum of understanding at the Eastern Economic Forum on the Baltic LNG project. They are also shareholders of the Sakhalin-2 shareholders, with Gazprom having 50 percent plus one share, and Mitsui controlling 12.5 percent.
