ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2018 ) :Citizens on Monday demanded of the quarters concerned to upgrade the Burn Centre at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to deal with massive flow of burn victims from all parts of the country.
According to them, due to limited beds and other facilities, many serious patients from other parts of the country have to wait for long time to address their medical complications. Aslam Javed, an attendant said "The available staff of burn center has been trying their best to provide medical cover to every patient but it was not possible for them to look after every patient in the absence of equipment and limited staff." He said that the quarters concerned should pay focus on this matter and address the sufferings of people, who come here with hope but have to return back due to limited beds and other facilities.
Another attendant Zia Baig said that more funds should be allocated for upgrading PIMS Burn center to facilitate maximum patients.
Salim Shah, the resident of a remote village of Gujar Khan, told that he brought his son to the Burn Center after he could not get treatment at another major hospital, but initially the hospital refused to give admission due to rush of patients.
However later my son was given bed and other facilities, who received burn injuries, he added. When contacted, the official of the hospital said sufficient staff and required facilities were available with the burn centre to serve the patients.
He said that burn centre at PIMS was established to treat victims of the Federal capital, but the facility had been receiving burn patients from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
He said due to lack of burn facilities in other cities, the burn victims have to travel to the federal capital from far-flung areas of the country. He said that qualified staff including medical and para medical staff at burn centre remained available round the clock for rehabilitation of patients.
