AJK begins mass free medical emergency services for common man" minister

Azad government of the state of Jammu & Kashmir is acting upon an integrated plan to ensure the delivery of quick medical facilities to the masses close to their door steps in all ten districts of the state.

This was disclosed by AJK minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Ch. Muhammad Saeed while speaking as chief guest at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected office bearers of Pakistan Medical Association Mirpur district here late Wednesday.

The ceremony, largely attended by doctors of the public and private sector hospitals from various parts of AJK, was also addressed by AJK Minister for Prisons Ch. Muhammad Ishaq, Principal Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur Dr. Azam Butt, Medical Superintendent Mirpur DHQ Hospital Dr. Farooq Noor, newly-elected district President of the PMA Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Raja, Secretary General of the organization Dr. Ejaz Chaudhry, Dental Surgeon Dr. Adnan Marghoob and others.

Earlier the minister Ch. Muhammad Saeed administered oath to the newly �elected PMA Mirpur District office bearers including Dr. Ejaaz Ahmed Raja (President), Dr. Mubashir Iqbal (Vice President), Dr. Ijaz Mehmood Chaudhry ( Secretary General ), Dr. Jehangir Anjum (Clinical Secretary, Dr. Ahmed Shujah (Joint Secretary), Dr. Adnan Marghoob (Finance Secretary) and Dr. Waled (Secretary Information).

In his detailed address of welcome the newly elected PMA President Dr. Ejaz Ahmed Raja highlighted the series of problems confronted by the doctors as well as the patients in the public sector hospitals in the district including the recently-elevated Mirpur District Headquarter Hospital. Dr. Ejaz underlined that despite being the fluctuated up and down grades status of Mirpur Divisional Headquarter Hospital (now District Headquarter hospital), this largely attended hospital lacks the specialist doctors of various diseased including the qualified nephrologist and physiatrist � which cause the immense problem for the patients of the related diseases and their attendants.

Dr. Ejaz continued that at present the dialysis center in Mirpur DHQ hospital was being running on self-help basis by a UK-based NGO with only doctor Dr. Shehzad Ahmed who use to perform more than 20 hours daily for the dialysis of mostly the over-packed dialyses center at the hospital .

The PMA called for immediate redressal of the grievances by the government faced by the patients visiting the DHQ hospital where even the required medicines were not available to the common man.

He also called for due facilities to the serving doctors reducing the over burden of the in and outdoor patients. He underlined that every doctors serving the public sector hospitals including the DHQ hospital Mirpur ultimately have to attend at least 150 of outdoor patients during their official duties in the hospitals.

Speaking on this occasion, AJK sports and Youth Affairs minister Ch. Muhammad Saeed underlined that the government has recently kicked off the "24 Hours Free Medical Emergency Services" in AJK � after the Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan inaugurated the services at Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in the State's Metropolis.

The minister said that first phase of the gigantic mass welfare project for the delivery of free medical facilities to the people of AJK close to their doorstep was the manifestation of the vision of the ruling party of AJK.

He said that these services has been started in 10 districts headquarters hospitals of AJK where all life saving drugs(free of cost)and medical staff would be available for the patients.He said 297 new posts and Rs.160.00 millions has been provided for the execution of this mega project.

Elaborating the free medical services, he said 280 new posts of nurses also been created for this project as nurses were short as compared to doctors in hospitals.

He said for emergency services in the hospitals separated centres have been setup where all life saving drugs will be available free of cost.

Ch. Saeed said that 950 new posts have been created to meet the requirements of the staff in all public sector hospitals in AJK.

The minister said the government has launched number of programs to improve healthcare services in Azad Kashmir despite limited resources.

He said infrastructure of health department has upgraded and free emergency services has started in the State today and these services also started in other districts of AJK and these services would be expended to Tehsil level as well.

Ch. Saeed said that the AJK government had recently signed an agreement with a pharmaceutical company to provide free treatment and medicines to patients suffering from Cancer a few months back.

The AJK Minister said over nine hundred vacancies have been created under Health Package to overcome the shortage of staff in government run hospitals.

He further said that education and health are main focussed sectors of the government.
