Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 28th September, 2018) The owner of renowned dessert shop The Sweet Tooth has alleged Wapda employee for asking a bribe.
Restaurant owner Umer Hussain took to Facebook last night to voice his concern against a Wapda SDO for asking a bribe.
When Hussain refused to bribe him, Wapda cut off the electricity of the restaurant.
In his post on Facebook, the restaurant owner said that his restaurant Sweet Tooth DHA, located in T block, has been disconnected from electricity for more than a week now.
Narrating the incident, he said, “It all started with Wapda employee who came to us asking they would tamper the bill if I give them a certain cut, to which I replied prostitution is a much more lucrative business. He really didn't like how I replied!”
Hussain further said that they took his electricity metre right before the reading date and asked for more bribe.
“It's been six months now they took off the meter right before the reading date and asked for bribe. Two months back one of them asked for Rs 35,000 if I wanted the meter to which I told him I would not give a penny of bribe! And reported to his higher ups, they disconnected the meter again and connected the supply to main, thank God we made the video or they would have been putting theft on us! So the price of bribe increased to Rs 500,000,” he continued.
He further alleged them of disconnecting the main wires before 8th Muharram.
“I did not submit to them and ran on generators, while I turned to the law, the orders pasted but we see no compliance,” the Sweet Tooth’s owner wrote.
Now they have to shut their generators too as DHA does not allow them.
“Today our generators went off too, DHA issued us warning that we cannot keep a generator on rentals outside. I am helpless today, I cannot imagine how someone who is not connected or doesn't bow to the demands of these bribe mongers can survive in this country,” Hussain said.
The restaurant owner expressed disappointment at bribery culture and requested people to support his cause.
