18th SCO Summit: President Mamnoon to join regional leaders today

President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday during the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) being held on June 9-10 is scheduled to join the leaders of the regional states.

Qingdao (china) , (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 8th Jun, 2018), : President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday during the 18th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) being held on June 9-10 is scheduled to join the leaders of the regional states.

Being held in the coastal tourist destination of Qingdao city of Shnadong province, this would be the first summit being held after the inclusion of Pakistan as full member of the Organization. Previously, Pakistan had been attending the summit only as an observer.

President Mamnoon is attending the summit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will also Chair the meeting. Besides President Mamnoon, the summit would also be attended by the leaders of all eight member countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Kazakhstan N.

A. Nazarbayev, Chinese President XI Jinping, Kyrgyz President S. Sh. Jeenbekov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tajik President E.Rahmon and Uzbek President Sh. M. Mirziyoyev. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Mongolia and Turkmenistan will also attend the meeting as Observers.

Representatives of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Independent States, Collective Security Treaty Organization, Association of South East Asian Nations, Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia, International Monetary Fund and World Bank will also attend the meeting.

Ambassador of Pakistan in China, Masood Khalid said after its inclusion in SCO, Pakistan had got great opportunity to enhance its ties with the neighboring countries including Central Asian States.

He said representing almost fifty percent of the world's population, the SCO was the largest inter-governmental organization which also included regional powers including Russia and China. He said as Pakistan has also been executing landmark China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects as keynote project of One Belt and One Road initiative, it would have vital opportunity to enhance its relations in multiple spheres including trade, energy and connectivity.

Masood Khalid said during his visit, the president would also hold important bilateral meetings on the sidelines including with Chinese President, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and also likely with Russian president.

The Ambassador said that during last two months, it would be the second high lever interaction between China and Pakistan as leaders from both the countries also met on the sidelines of the BOAO Forum in April last.
