Child rights activists demand enactment, enforcement of relevant laws

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Nov, 2016 ) : Society of Protection of Rights of Child (SPARC) in collaboration with Child Rights Movement celebrated the Colorful occasion of the Universal Children's Day, at Sindh Museum Hyderabad here on Wednesday.

On the Universal Children Day, National Manager SPARC, Kashif Bajeer has demanded the enactment of child rights related pending bills and implementation of existing child rights laws in Sindh and said "we are determined to take care of our children and give them our full attention for their survival, development and protection".

He said child rights require special attention of the provincial government and the Child Rights Movement (CRM) Sindh to expedite its advocacy and campaigning work to ensure effective steps for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child ratified by Pakistan on November 12, 1990.

Kashif said it was a national duty to protect the interests of children and provide them with equal opportunities without any discrimination.

Children were living a life of deprivation and violation of all their fundamental rights such as education, health care, recreation, proper nutrition, safe and secure environment and a childhood free of work and exploitation.

He said that torture on children in order to obtain a confession, to get information or to punish children suspected of having committed a crime has been reported in all regions and can be considered widespread and severe.

He also emphasized the need for a continuous interaction among government, civil society and media on child issues, saying that it would be in the best interest of the young generation. Children from various schools of Hyderabad and all over the Sindh came together to celebrate the Universal Children's Day at a colorful ceremony. The students also actively participated in the panel discussion where they shared ideas.

On the occasion students of public and private sector educational institutes of Hyderabad participated in the special events, speeches, tableau's and theater.
