Commonwealth, AIOU Holds Workshop On Capacity-building

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Augst,2016) : Commonwealth of Learning, Canada, and Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) here Wednesday organized an ICT- skilled based workshop on capacity-building of students and for development of new courses through use of latest technology. It was jointly organized by the University's Department of Computer Sciences and International Collaboration and Exchange office, said a press release issued here. Inaugurating the workshop, Vice Chancellor Prof.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui underlined the need of updating the existing curriculum and educations practices, keeping in view the fast-changing circumstances and the needs of the students. New challenges in education sector could be well faced through innovative ideas and efficient use of technology, he added. AIOU, he announced, would put online all its post-graduate courses, including PHd and M.Phil within next couple of years, and the students will be able to receive study material through internet.

The university, he added, had attached high importance to professional development and capacity-building of employees and students for achieving the target of quality and service-oriented education. The AIOU has introduced a number of initiatives in the recent years to promote applied and meaningful research that meets the socio-economic needs of the society.

Collaborative partnership with national, regional and international institutions is also being increased for introduction of skill-based academic programs and sharing new development in the education sector. Dean Sciences Dr.

Naghmana Rashid, Director international Collaboration office Zahid Majeed and Dr. Moizuddin Ahmed of Computer Science department highlighted on the occasion various programs and courses being introduced with the cooperation of Commonwealth of Learning.

In all there are 12 skill-based courses including those relating to audio/Video editing which are in process of contents' development.
