WASHINGTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2018 ) :The Pakistan Embassy in Washington on Friday said that a Pakistan student was among the 10 killed when a gunman opened fire in a school in Texas, in the latest incident of school shooting in the United States.

"Among the victims was Sabika Sheikh, a Pakistani exchange student," said the Pakistan Embassy in Washington in a tweet. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Sabiha's family and friends," the tweet said quoting Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry.

According to the US media, the 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis has been charged in the attack and was to appear before the court on Friday. The Embassy tweet said that the Pakistani Consul General in Houston was in touch with the authorities concerned to ascertain the facts on the incident.

Ambassador Chaudhry expressed his heartfelt condolences for the victims of the tragic incident at the Santa Fe High School. Nine students and a teacher were killed in the attack by the gunman, who used a .38 revolver and a shotgun he had acquired from his father, according to a report.

Ten others received mostly gun wounds. The suspect surrendered to the police after originally planning to commit suicide after the attack, Texas Governor Greg Abbott told a press briefing. At least two other suspects of interest have been detained in the investigation into the attack.
