PARC To Train 35 Plant Genetic Resources, Gene Bank Operations

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2018 ) :Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad would train 35 managers, technicians and conservationists working in gene banks Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) member states.
In this regard both the organizations would organize an 'International Workshop on Plant Genetic Resources and Gene bank Operations Management Systems on May 8, said a press release. Managers, technicians and conservationists working in gene banks are mainly targeted to benefit from the workshop.
The International workshop is aimed to train about 30-35 participants from OIC member countries. OIC Members who confirmed their participation in the workshop are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Gambia, Iraq, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Senegal, Sudan, Tajikstan.
Leading national and international experts with vast experience in plant genetic resources and gene banks will share their views to the participants of the workshop. The workshop is aimed at to achieve two main objectives, raise the capacity of the existing plant genetic resources for food and agriculture conservation and utilization facilities in OIC countries with particular focus on current status of plant diversity, its use and preservation, main achievements at the global, regional and national level and key technical and scientific advances, major gaps and needs that require urgent attention.
Development of projects in consultation with the experts for setting up Gene Banks in the OIC member states.
