SC Stays Execution Of Military Court Convict

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -21st Sept,2016) : The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the execution of an accused convicted by Military courts and sought record from the provincial home secretary and prosecution department.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case filed by accused Jawwad against his sentence announced by military court.
During the course of proceedings, Advocate Shahzad Khan counsel for the accused informed the court that the real name of accused Jawwad Farooq Afghani was Muhammad farrukh s/o Hamid Ali Jatt who belongs to district Bahawalnagar.
He said that an Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi had acquitted the accused in 2005. He said that the military court awarded death sentence to his client over his alleged involvement in bank robbery and recovery of arms and ammunition in March 2016.
He alleged that the military court announced death sentence ignoring the real facts in the case. He said that accused was detained in Mach jail. The court after hearing of arguments stayed the execution till decision of the case in apex court and issued notices to respondents in the case. Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till last week of October.
