MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Dec, 2016 ) : Chairman-elect Zila Council Dewan Abbas Bukhari said that serving the people of the district would remain his top priority and pledged to rise above political and personal interests during his entire tenure in office.
Talking to APP here Friday, he vowed to reach out to every forum to get issues of the district resolved and promised to keep political rivals on board to achieve the objective of the development of Multan and well being of people.
He said he had reached the position by the Will of God and support from his party, PML-N, and added that he would like to seek party's consensus before initiating any development project. Bukhari appeared very concerned about `decades-old sewerage issues and rising water problems' especially in far-flung areas like his parent constituency NA-153 (Jalalpur Pirwala).
"I would make special focus on sewer lines which have almost broken up as well as the water problems which are needed to be resolved sharply." He said time is ripe to resolving the issues on preferential basis.
About political rivals, he said, despite their ceaseless efforts challenging his nomination at many forums, he would take opposition along for initiating any course of action. "Though opponents dragged me to every forum to get my nomination cancelled just for nothing but I still respect them with hopes they would not do politics just for the sake of political point scoring and play constructive role for common cause of development of Multan.
" He said he was a politician hailing from a family having strong political background and would never surrender to `any unfair demand' from any quarter.
He expressed hope that opposition would not create barriers that could prevent him from initiating welfare projects for people of the district. He hailed the PML-N for reviving the Local Bodies' system but suggested that elected members of local bodies should be empowered to serve the people.
However, he added, he along with all the elected members would do whatever needed in their capacity to serve the people. Deewan Abbas Bukhari, who is the son of former MNA Deewan Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, said he believed that the revival of local bodies system would bring about a sea change in the service delivery and development process at local level.
He said he was enthusiastic to deliver for Multan on `war-footing' and never let hindrances cause trouble on way to achieving his targets. He said he would like to give special assignment to the vice chairmen to ensure check and balance for flawless completion of projects. He appealed the people and the media to point out loopholes if emerged in service delivery and development.
