The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved the judgment in contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Tallal Chaudry, over his derogatory speeches/statements.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jul, 2018 ) :The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved the judgment in contempt of court proceedings against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Tallal Chaudry, over his derogatory speeches/statements.
A three-judge bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed reserved the judgment after completion of arguments placed by Kamran Murtaza, the counsel for Mr. Talal.
While reserving the judgment, the court directed PML-N leader to ensure his presence in the court during the announcement of the decision adding that the date of the judgment could not be announced at this time.
During the course of proceedings, Kamran Murtaza, pleaded that the proceedings against his client were taken up on the basis of two speeches that had a three-minute duration each however the reasons for contempt were not listed in the notice issued to Mr Talal," he argued.
Murtaza further argued that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had not even taken an immediate notice of both speeches of his client.
To this, Justice Gulzar said "the court will not take lead from PEMRA to reach a verdict; it will base its decision on the law".
Kamran Murtaza requested the court to show judicial restraint in the present case as it had taken in the case of Mr. Nehal Hashmi and withdrew contempt notice against Hashmi.
Justice Gulzar said that Nehal Hashmi immediately asked apology over contemptuous remarks against judiciary but here your client pleaded the case and not ready to admit his mistake.
Subsequently the court reserved judgment to announce it later.
