
Technology Based Solutions Required To Monitor Projects: Ahsan Iqbal

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th August, 2016) : Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal said on Monday that accurate research and new technology based solutions are required to monitor mega development projects for timely completion. He said that monitoring and implementation of major development projects is key function of Planning Commission and it should serve as 'Eyes and Ears'. He said that effective monitoring systems add value in the development efforts, he expressed these views while chairing a high level meeting of officers of project wing dealing with Implementation and Monitoring in Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform. He said that quarterly review and release of funds should be linked up with monitoring reports of the projects.
The Minister emphasized to strengthen the monitoring system to access targets, objectives and outcomes of the projects. He said that delays in project implementation affect their contribution to the economic growth and results in the wastage of resources. Highlighting the importance of project Management, he said,"We don't need archives but we need information for decision making." He said that monitoring outcomes should be used in devising trainings of Pakistan Planning and Management Institute (PPMI) to improve and enhance expertise in project management. He also directed authorities to use space technology with the help of SUPARCO on mega projects under CPEC for more scientifically planning and execution of the projects.
