Two Italy's Lega Serie A Matches Postponed Over Genoa Tragedy - Reports

Two matches of Italy's Lega Serie A have been postponed over the recent deadly bridge collapse in the northwestern Italian city of Genoa, Football Italia website reported on Thursday, citing Lega Serie A.
MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Two matches of Italy's Lega Serie A have been postponed over the recent deadly bridge collapse in the northwestern Italian city of Genoa, Football Italia website reported on Thursday, citing Lega Serie A.
The match involving football clubs Sampdoria and Fiorentina, as well as the game between Milan and Genoa, was set to be held on Sunday, but Sampdoria and Genoa asked to delay the games over the tragedy in their home city.
"The President of the Lega Serie A, given the requests for postponement of their matches ... on the part of the clubs Sampdoria and Genoa as result of the tragedy which hit Genoa, and having received the assent of both Fiorentina and Milan, has decided on the postponement of the Sampdoria-Fiorentina and Milan-Genoa matches," Lega Serie A said in a statement.

The new dates will be announced later.
According to Football Italia, the Chievo-Juventus and Lazio-Napoli matches, which were initially set to open the Serie A on Saturday, may also be postponed, as Saturday will be the national day of mourning. The funeral for the victims of the tragedy will be held on the same day.
"In all the other matches scheduled for the first round of the Serie A ... in memory of the victims of Genoa, one minute of silence will be observed before the start and the teams will take to the field with black armbands." Lega Serie A's statement read.
Genoa's Morandi Bridge collapsed during a storm on Tuesday. A section of the bridge fell from a height of 100 meters (328 feet) on warehouses, railway tracks and a river, claiming lives of nearly 40 people.
