EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Tuesday that the European Union will never become a military alliance or compete with NATO.

BRUSSELS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th November, 2018) EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Tuesday that the European Union will never become a military alliance or compete with NATO.

Speaking after a meting with defense ministers from 28 EU states, the European diplomacy chief stressed that the EU will always remain a political union, and despite developing its own defense capability, it will never replace NATO.

Mogherini stressed that EU efforts in defense sector are only supplementing NATO capabilities and strengthen security of EU countries that are also NATO members.
