CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd September, 2018) Cairo hopes that Europe will boost its efforts in the fight against illegal migration, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Sunday.
"Europe's contribution is not enough, we hope it will be more than it is now," Shoukry said as cited by the MENA news agency.
He noted that since September 2016, not even one boat with illegal migrants left the Egyptian territory, as "Egypt fulfils its obligations."
He stressed that concerning the issue of illegal migration, Egypt was under much more pressure than its European partners, saying that the country hosted about five million migrants in its territory "without protests and ado.
"
European countries have been experiencing a severe migration crisis since 2015 due to the influx of thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing crises and poverty in the middle East and North Africa. Lately, a wave of anti-immigrant rallies and counter-protests has been witnessed in Germany, with thousands of people, including far-right radicals, taking to the streets of eastern city of Chemnitz. Dozens of people have been injured and hundreds have been detained during the rallies, according to media reports.
