DAVOS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) Italy will wait for the UK institutions to come up with a common position on the Brexit deal in a public debate, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Wednesday.
"We respect the British institutions. They are going to decide according to public debate what is the way forward, and we will wait for the common position," Conte said at a press conference during the World Economic Forum , asked if Italy believes Brexit should or could be postponed.
Last week, the withdrawal deal agreed by London and the European Union was voted down in the UK House of Commons, forcing the government to hold a series of cross-party talks to try to reach a consensus.
On Monday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May set out her plan B to break the deadlock but said she could not take a no-deal Brexit off the table.
May has already rejected calls for a second referendum, pointing out that the United Kingdom should not delay its withdrawal from the European Union. The country is expected to leave the bloc on March 29.
